How Lean Production Reduce Cost?

Updated: Nov 2, 2020

What is a lean production?

Lean production is a systematic manufacturing approach that focuses on eliminating waste while increasing the value and reduces costs.

Why “lean production”?

As you know, lean means no excess. When you put the word lean production together, it means no excess of production, thus, cost saving. With this, the management or whoever utilizing this approach, may focus on the quality of the production. This approach was derived from the Toyota Production System, created by Taiichi Ohno.

It involves constant efforts to eliminate the waste starting from product design process to the manufacturing, distribution and the rest of the phases. As mentioned earlier, while eliminating the waste, it also increases the value of the product, and this simply is a Kaizen approach. What is Kaizen approach? We will talk about this in the future blog. :)

As we know, for business, waste incurred cost. By saying that, minimum waste reduce costs. It is a powerful approach for any business to remain or become more competitive. When we mention about waste, it simply means the 8 waste of lean production; defects, over-production, waiting, unused talent, transportation, inventory, motion, and extra-processing.
